Winter Projects

January. Cold and short days, not much football left, what’s a guy to do? Stay inside and watch movies? Sure, works for me! But Brad, what about house projects? There’s always something to do, right? Yes, I suppose so, there’s always something, like the following three projects.

How’s your grout these days? Whoa, enough with the excitement, Brad. Yeah, I know, grout is a real boring thing to read about. But did you know it’s not supposed to be a moldy gray color? Did you know that if it’s not sealed right it may leak and ruin the wall behind it? Okay, not so boring now. Come in to your local Ace Hardware store and ask our helpful folks about cleaning your grout. We have many products that do a great job, and we have the right tools to make the job easy. Then ask about our sealers to go over your clean grout and keep it in good condition. Trust me, I had old grout in a shower start to come apart. It leaked water and then ruined the wall behind it. It took a lot of money and time to repair the damage from that, and it could have been taken care of with better maintenance. Take a close look at your grout, an ounce of prevention here can easily be worth a pound of cure.

That old lamp that doesn’t work. Many of us have one or more of these. Bring it in to Ace and let us help you repair it. Ace stocks all sorts of sockets, switches, wire, plugs, ferrules, finials, even fixture hickeys (Yes that’s a real thing!) that your lamp may need. Ace can help you get the right LED bulb to go in that lamp also. Yes, it’s easy to retro-fit most lamps with our new and extensive selection of LED bulbs. It’s not rocket science to re-wire a lamp, and when you’re done, you’ll have a safer, lighter, useful lamp. Better than having it sit in the corner collecting dust.

When you plug that lamp back in, does the socket barely hold the cord any longer? Isn’t it frustrating when you can’t keep something plugged in due to a worn-out outlet. Seems like they shouldn’t, but, outlets do wear out over time. If you’re living in a home that’s forty years old or older, there’s a good chance that you need to replace some outlets. No, you don’t need to call an electrician for this. Yes, with a little caution and a bit of research, you can easily replace outlets. Again, our helpful hardware folks will be happy to show you the basics of this, and help you choose the right outlet. You may even want to update to outlets that have USB connections built right in, super convenient for charging so many modern devices. You may need to update to GFCI protected outlets in your bathroom or kitchen. Do a little research online, learn how it can be done, then come on in to Ace Hardware, your outlet store!

Tell them Brad Nale sent you. Now, back to those movies!
